ADHD Treatment

Personalized Care for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

ADHD can affect much more than your ability to concentrate. It can influence organization, time management, productivity, relationships, emotional well-being, and everyday responsibilities.

At TruYou Psychiatry, we take the time to understand the challenges you're experiencing and how they affect your daily life.

Our approach is individualized and collaborative, with treatment recommendations based on your symptoms, history, needs, and goals.

What Is ADHD?

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that can affect attention, impulse control, organization, and activity levels.

Although ADHD is often associated with children, symptoms can continue into adulthood. Some adults may not recognize they have ADHD until difficulties with work, relationships, organization, or everyday responsibilities become increasingly challenging.

A thorough evaluation is important because symptoms associated with ADHD can sometimes overlap with anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and other conditions.

Common Symptoms of ADHD

ADHD symptoms can vary considerably from person to person and may include:

  • Difficulty maintaining focus
  • Becoming easily distracted
  • Forgetfulness
  • Difficulty completing tasks
  • Problems with organization
  • Poor time management
  • Frequently losing or misplacing things
  • Procrastination
  • Difficulty following through on responsibilities
  • Impulsive decisions or behavior
  • Restlessness
  • Difficulty sitting still
  • Frequently interrupting others
  • Feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities

Not everyone with ADHD experiences the same symptoms or experiences them to the same degree.

ADHD in Adults

Adult ADHD can sometimes look different from the symptoms commonly associated with children.

Adults may struggle with managing schedules, meeting deadlines, organizing responsibilities, completing projects, maintaining focus during conversations or meetings, or balancing responsibilities at home and work.

These challenges can sometimes lead to frustration, stress, relationship difficulties, or problems with self-confidence.

Identifying the underlying cause of these difficulties can be an important step toward finding appropriate treatment.

How Is ADHD Diagnosed?

There isn't a single symptom or simple test that determines whether someone has ADHD.

A psychiatric evaluation may include discussing your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, how long you've experienced difficulties, and how those symptoms affect different areas of your life.

Your provider may also consider whether another condition could be causing or contributing to your symptoms.

The goal is to develop a clearer understanding of what you're experiencing before recommending treatment.

How Is ADHD Treated?

Treatment for ADHD depends on the individual.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include medication management, behavioral strategies, psychotherapy or counseling, lifestyle changes, or a combination of approaches.

If medication is appropriate, ongoing medication management allows your provider to evaluate your response, discuss concerns or possible side effects, and make adjustments when necessary.

At TruYou Psychiatry, you're an active participant in your treatment. Your provider will discuss your options, answer your questions, and work with you to develop a plan that fits your individual needs.

ADHD Doesn't Define You

Living with ADHD can sometimes be frustrating, particularly when difficulties with attention, organization, or completing tasks affect your work, relationships, or confidence.

But ADHD is only one part of who you are.

At TruYou Psychiatry, we look beyond a diagnosis to understand the individual and help you work toward better mental health, improved daily functioning, and a better quality of life.
